temperatures? any tips? single person driving out with two dogs.
Answer by NC
Hey-
I used to live in Tucson and I've done lots of road trips to/from Cali..
First off, it's going to be hot hot hot (as in over 100 once your in Tucson and almost that hot all the way in from Cali)- (which you are probably currently experiencing)- make sure to bring extra water in case your car overheats (this happens a lot...I've run into road work that caused me to sit in the heat for well over 3 hours, ouch!) and bring lots of water for your dogs in case you do get help up for a bit along the way.
There's plenty of food, but you'll have to pull off the highway and drive through the little towns that dot the road- they will all (hopefully!) have a gas station, fast food/diner. If they don't have a fast food/diner restaurant they will have a gas station with snacks. Since the bathrooms are closed on the AZ side I always stop at the gas stations to use the restroom.
Unfortunately,AZ is having serious budget problems and they have closed all the rest stops along the freeway which is a major pain. A FEW are open where you can pull your car in and relax and let the dogs out, but most are closed off completely (you can't even park in them).
I would take highway 10 all the way across (which goes through Riverside, Indio, Blythe and then into AZ and through Phoenix) Traffic in Phoenix (as with any big city) can be really heavy during rush hour- try not to drive through during the am/pm rush.

Good luck
