Tribute To Victims of Tragedy in Tucson
Sky World News thankfully broadcast the memorial service which was indeed wonderful to see even if it was at 2am Irish time. President Barack Obama in his usual eloquent insightful and intelligent delivery, we have grown to expect, did not let his listeners down as he captured our attention with undivided focus. His poignant words drew us closer to the fact that more than any thing, we are all humans first but as he said it Americans first. He also urged us not to use this tragedy as an excuse to turn on each other again repeatedly and unnecessarily.
When a tragedy like this happens anywhere, but unfortunately in Tucson, we have to remember why we believe in democracy and the right to freedom. The President spoke about the right to peaceful assembly and that heroism is right here in the hearts of all Americans, as it does not require any special training or talent to rise to an occasion that demands it. To President Barack Obama and your fellow Americans our hearts are with you all and our sentiment matches your triumphant spirit so a speedy recuperation shall follow; God bless.
As he says no one knows why these events occur but let us always talk in a way that heals and not in a way that wounds. One may only pray that his words may appear in print as his speech could apply to anywhere on this earth by just replacing the word American with Europe, Afghanistan, Ireland, Israel or anywhere because as a global entity there are no borders and we are all linked by divine virtue.
With a personal connection to the USA for most of my life I feel a certain affiliation to the country and the people and I sincerely pray that Americans shall indeed rally and do their utmost to embrace each other without bias. We cannot predict any event but we can predict how we are going to respond to situations that may trigger angst or discomfort and to offer empathy in the place of criticism.
There is a wicked apathy transcending our world and we need to ignite intelligent and enterprising passion so people shall care for each other and take more notice of those among us who may be a wee biteen fragile. It has become too comfortably accepted to criticize with vitriolic speech without giving an iota of care about consequences and it shall behoove us to develop kinder speech and basically value the gift of kindness as apposed to vitriol which is never respectful.
Curiously, CNN with Anderson Cooper hosting gave some interviews immediately after the event with a selected panel and of course some went into criticism mode about the Presidents speech; so some things do not change eh!
Come what may let us pray as a people united around the world that peace shall reign and lawlessness shall be curtailed. Let us commence in our own back yard and living rooms, let us tell and show our loved ones we do indeed love them and let us greet strangers with smiles. May God guide the USA as it recovers from this tragedy and thankfully, Gabby Gifford has opened her eyes today indicating her recovery is coming closer by the minute. God bless! AMEN!
Ps: There is a fund set up in the name of Christina Taylor Green to help kids in the Arizona area live their dreams. God bless them in their efforts. Christina was born on 9/11/2001 so her memory will always have a very relevant significance especially as one so young could be interested in how her country was run and was robbed of the opportunity to fulfill her own wonderful dreams.
