Are we serious about fighting global warming or just kidding around?

I hear it everywhere, all the time, about greenhouse gas emissions and the need for greener technologies but are the speakers serious about it all or do they simply want their cake and eat it too? There's lot of whining/complaining about deficits being left to future generations but what about a dry, barren planet (or one that's been sunk by rising tides)? My point is this: I believe we'll need to restructure our recreational activities if we want to be serious about combating global warming. I was watching the Georgia college football game in Oklahoma and thinking about all the emissions created to have such a game. Not only transporting the team there, but their whole host of trainers, supporting band and cheerleading squads not to mention all the fans that traveled for the game. Commercials tell me to buy locally-grown produce so how about "local" games? I believe we'll need to restructure conferences to be locally oriented if we're going to be serious about fighting global warming. What's the point of Miami traveling to Boston College every year or USC playing Ohio State? Whether it's football, basketball, baseball or other sports, if you want to save or create a better future for your kids then you'll support a reorganization of professional as well as NCAA conference sports to be more regional in scope. I know traditionalists will balk at the idea but they'll need to consider their kid's future. The history books can record the traditions while reorganization of team leagues/conferences will allow the creation of new rivalries and can support the creation of new traditions for the future anyway. How about an NFL division with Miami, Tampa Bay, Jacksonville and Atlanta? Lots of rivalry potential there. Or perhaps a new South Eastern Conference with the likes of Miami, UF, USF, FSU, GT, UGA, Alabama, Miss. St, Ole Miss, Clemson, S.C. and Auburn? I'm sure there's lots of material there to create new traditions for the future. I'm also sure some mathematical model can be created to optimize shortest distances for new leagues and conferences to cut down on travel and greenhouse gas emissions. So how about it NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, NCAA, etc.?
