I am a senior in high school looking to get some photography experience outside of school so I have a better idea of what to expect from an actual photography career. any suggestions would be helpful.

Internships are rarely advertised. Usually an internship will be offered through an accredited degree program in a local higher learning institution. Your school counselor or art teacher may have some info.
You can sometimes find internships and summer work by asking around or going door to door to local studios. I do NOT recommend that you just call to ask for an internship but you could call ahead to set up an interview.
