How do I get a full shrub? The past two years I have been doing the wrong thing by cutting it all the way to the ground. I only get 3 stems each season that topple over because they get two tall. Should I pinch the top of the plant to make it fuller? What type of insecticide to I use, mid summer I always have these little white bugs that suck the life out of the leaves.
I tried the soapy water it did not work, what else? So do I pinch the leaves now?

lets start with pruning.cut the stems down to about 6" above the ground in fall.in the spring pinch or cut to promote lateral growth.after the 1-2 week of june leave be.dont forget to fertilize with an organic fertilizer or compost.
the pests sound like aphnids.mix dish detergent with water and spray on plant.this works and is harmless to the plant.good luck.
